This website has been created to help you more easily access information about Nova Scotia's South Shore. The region is made up of nine municipal units, all with websites, and all providing information on everything from housing to business opportunities to festivals and events to recreation, health care and other local resources. We've combined (and in some cases found other sources) and collected that information here to give you a broader picture so that you can learn about Doing Business, Living and Visiting the South Shore.
Through the WhyHere Video section, you'll hear real stories from real people speaking in their own words about why they have chose to move to the South Shore. You also hear from those of us who grew up here and stayed. We all want you to come share it with us.
And be sure to check out the Asset Map to get a better ideas of services and businesses across the region.
We would like to thank all of our Municipal Units, for without their support and collaboration WhyHere would not have been possible. Their economic development specialists, recreation directors, tourism departments, and engineering and public Works departments all provided us with content to develop this site.
Thanks, too, to the steering committee for their advice, input, good judgement, and unwavering support and recognition of the importance of this initiative. The committee included people from the Region of Queens, Municipality of the District of Lunenburg (MODL), Municipality of the District of Chester, Bridgewater Development Agency (BDA), Nova Scotia Economic and Rural Development and Tourism (NSERDT), and Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). We thank them all for their thoughtfulness, guidance and the countless hours they contributed to this project.
Thank you to those who took time to be featured in a video and tell their "WhyHere" story. You truly are the stars and the reason this site is so special. A special thank you, too, to all of you who provided us with so many great photos from across the region.
And, finally, thank you to Dwight Robar and the Digital Fusion team for approaching the LQRDA with this concept and for keeping us on track both with timing and with the vision for this site. Thanks to Dante Damiani and The Picture House for bringing the people in the WhyHere videos to life.
Together we have invited the world to come share the beauty, colour and character of Nova Scotia's South Shore. Let us share your WhyHere!
